Enabling the IEHost Debug log in Internet Explorer

Last Updated: May 15, 2014 05:08PM EDT
When using the ImageMan.Net Twain components in Internet Explorer things can get hairy determining why the control wont load as IE doesn't really show any error information. Luckily you can enable the IEHost Debug log file in Internet Explorer which will provide the error information as to why the control wasn't loaded.

Activating the IEHost Debug Log File

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and click the following registry key:
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework
  4. Add a DWORD value named DebugIEHost to this key; assign it any non-zero value.
  5. Add a string value named IEHostLogFile. Assign it the full path (including the file name) of the file in which you want to record the debug trace (for example, C:\Temp\IEDebug.log).
Once you have done this restart Internet Explorer and navigate to your scanning application to the point of failure, then close IE and use your favorite text editor to look at the file. If you cant make sense of the error please email our support team and we'll be glad to help out.
