Although FaxMan supports any faxmodem supporting the class 1,2,2.0 or 2.1 fax command set some modems are better than others. For serious business applications we strongly recommend using a "business" quality modem such as those from Multitech, Perle or Mainpine.
For single line modems the MultiTech MT9234 series of modems includes USB, serial and PCI modems. Yoiu can purchase these modems from our website or from your favorite retailer. The Mainpine IQ Express 1 Port modem is also an excellent choice assuming your PC has an available PCI-e slot. Both the Multitech and Mainpine cards support the Class 2.1 fax command set which provides faster 33.6K faxing and also error correcting mode support.
For multi line modems there are a couple of options depending on the type of PCI slot you have available in your PC/Server. For PCI-X (Thats the older PCI standard) Perle offers 4 and 8 port cards that are based on the Multitech chipset. For PCI-e (PCI Express) slots we recommend the Mainpine IQ Express 2, 4 or 8 port cards. Both the Perle and Mainpine cards support the Class 2.1 fax command set which provides faster 33.6K faxing and also error correcting mode support.
You can see the complete line of modems that we offer at http://www.data-tech.com/products/hardware.aspx.
Aren't these cards expensive ?
While the initial investment is a bit higher than a cheap white label modem in the long run they can actually save money by supporting the faster 33.6K faxing with Class 2.1 and also by being more robust and supporting error correcting mode. In the faxmodem world the old axiom that you get what you pay for is true, white label/off brand modems are fine for home use but for any serious business use you really need a good business quality modem. We've had many developers who's customers have spent hours trying to get a $29 modem to work reliably wasting their time and money.
