Imact33.ocx won't register

Greg Nov 03, 2012 09:12AM EDT

I have imageman 7.20 that has worked fine with my VB6 apps until Windows 8 came out. Now I have a hard time getting it to register. I have found a way to do it buy I have to install a program that does register it to make it work. Do you have any ideas? Is this a imageman OCX? I was told it is by Microsoft.

Hello,
The imact33.ocx is an old version of our ImageMan ActiveX product. You should be able to register it manually by running regsvr32 with the path and filename of the ocx as the parameter. Be sure to do this from a Command Prompt started 'As Admin'.

Normally your app's installer would register the OCX for you.

I have the issue with the IMACT33.OCX no loading in Windows 8. I have done as you instructed but it comes back with The module failed to load. Make sure the binary is in the path or debug it for a missing depenency. I did this and all files needed are there. My installer worked fine on Windows 7 but not Windows 8. I have even upgraded my installer and still I have the same issue.
Has anybody else had this issue?
Thanks for your reply.

Hello Greg,

I just installed the ImageMan ActiveX V7.30 release on a Windows 8 Virtual machine and it installed and ran fine. If you are having a problem registering then you need to check a couple of things:

1) I would suggest you download the 7.30 release from from the My Products page on our website at http://www.data-tech.com/myproducts.aspx. This is the latest V 7.xx build and is free to download.

2) Make sure you have the msvcrt.dll and the mfc42.dll from your development PC on the windows 8 machine as those are dependencies of the imact33.ocx file and it will NOT register without them and I suspect they are not installed by default on Windows 8 as they are rather old.

3) Make sure you start the DOS COmmand prompt 'As Admin' otherwise registration will fail as well since the permissions are insufficient.

Thanks for your interest in our products and please let us know if you have any questions.
